Day of Surgery

On the day of your procedure, please report to the main entrance of the hospital and check in at one of the registration bays.

You may bathe or shower the day of your procedure per usual, but please refrain from using lotions, body oils, etc. We ask that you do not wear makeup. We ask that you do not wear contact lenses as you will be asked to remove them prior to your procedure. Prior to your procedure you will also be asked to remove dentures, partial plates, hearing aids, body piercings, and jewelry.

What to bring:

  • Current insurance card(s)
  • Drivers License / ID
  • Any co-pays or deductibles required by your insurance
  • Metered dose inhaler if you use one
  • A list of your current medications
  • A list of your allergies
  • Advance Directives if you wish it be a part of your medical record (Living Will / Medical Durable Power of Attorney)

What NOT to bring:

  • Valuables. The hospital cannot be responsible for jewelry and other valuables. Please leave them at home.

Medications:

  • Please follow instructions given by the surgical nurse during your pre-operative phone call.

Surgery:

  • Upon arrival you will meet the first few members of your surgical team: the admission nurse, operating room nurse, anesthesia provider, and surgeon. These members of your team will come into your pre-operative room to go over any questions, comments, or concerns prior to your procedure. Once you are ready for surgery, you will be taken back to the operating room where you will see familiar faces and additional surgery team members. You will be asked many times to state your full name, date of birth, and what you are having done. This is a national standard put in place for your safety and team engagement. Our team is dedicated to providing high-quality, personalized care to you!

After Surgery – Post Anesthesia Care/Recovery:

  • After surgery, you will be taken to recover in either the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or back to the peri-anesthesia room you began in. During recovery, your vital signs will be monitored, and post-operative instructions will be discussed. Please be prepared to have a responsible driver to take you home and monitor you after receiving anesthesia.

Tips for children:

  • You may bring a special blanket or stuffed animal to go back to the operating room with your child for comfort.

  • If your infant has a special bottle or formula, please bring it with you to give after the procedure.

  • Small children riding in rear facing car seats need two responsible people available: one to observe the child during the trip and the other to drive home.
